What to Wear to Every Wedding Event: The Complete Bridal Wardrobe Guide

Getting married comes with a lot more outfits than just the wedding dress. Between the engagement party, bridal shower, bachelorette, courthouse, welcome party, rehearsal dinner, after party, and honeymoon, there are plenty of reasons to find something you love.
The good news is that there really aren’t rules for what you have to wear. You can go classic in white, bring in color, experiment with trends, or choose pieces you’ll actually wear again. Here’s what to wear to every wedding event, plus some of my favorite bridal looks for each one.

What to Wear to an Engagement Party
Your engagement party is often the first official event of the wedding festivities, so it’s a fun opportunity to be a little more playful with your look. A great white mini or midi dress works almost anywhere, but you can also experiment with color, prints, interesting textures, or a silhouette you might not choose for one of the more formal events later on.
This is also an easy event to buy for with rewear in mind. Look for fun details, interesting necklines, or unexpected silhouettes that make the outfit feel special without making it feel like it can only ever be worn as a bridal look.
What to Wear to a Bridal Shower
Bridal showers tend to happen during the day, so I usually gravitate toward dresses that feel feminine without being overly formal. Think lace, florals, textured cotton, drop waists, A-line silhouettes, and pretty midi or mini dresses.
You also don’t have to stick to white. Pale blue, butter yellow, soft pink, or a subtle print can be just as good for a bridal shower, especially for a spring or summer event.
What to Wear to a Bachelorette Party
The bachelorette is where you can have the most fun with your bridal wardrobe. Minis, matching sets, sequins, sheer details, feathers, and statement accessories all work here.
I’d also think about where you’re actually going rather than defaulting to a traditional “bachelorette dress.” A beach weekend calls for something completely different from dinner in New York or a night out in Vegas. Start with the destination and itinerary, then find the outfit.
What to Wear to a Courthouse Wedding
Courthouse wedding outfits can be as simple or as formal as you want. A tailored mini, sleek midi, modern suit, or understated gown can all work depending on the kind of day you’re planning.
I especially love looks that feel polished rather than overly “bridal” for a courthouse ceremony. A great silhouette and beautiful fabric can do most of the work without needing a lot of embellishment.
What to Wear to a Welcome Party
A welcome party sits somewhere between the relaxed start of the wedding weekend and the more dressed-up feel of the rehearsal dinner. Depending on the dress code, this can be a great place for a mini, a matching set, a printed dress, or even a non-white look.
If you have both a welcome party and rehearsal dinner, I’d make the two outfits feel distinct. Save the more formal or statement look for the rehearsal dinner and let the welcome party outfit feel a little easier.
What to Wear to a Rehearsal Dinner
The rehearsal dinner is one of my favorite events to shop for because almost anything goes. A sleek white column dress can feel incredibly chic, but so can lace, a dramatic maxi, a colorful gown, or something completely unexpected.
The venue is usually the best place to start. A garden dinner might call for a floral or romantic silhouette, while a restaurant or hotel gives you room to go more polished. And if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear blue, this is one of my favorite places to do it.
What to Wear to an After Party
If there’s ever a time to go for it, it’s the after party. This is where I love sequins, metallics, embellishment, fringe, feathers, and very short minis.
The biggest thing to consider is whether you can actually move in it. You’re probably going to be dancing, so I’d choose something that looks great but doesn’t require constant adjusting. And if your wedding dress is more traditional, the after party is a fun opportunity to wear something completely different.
What to Wear on Your Honeymoon
Your honeymoon wardrobe should be the easiest part. This is where I’d prioritize pieces you genuinely want in your closet beyond the wedding.
Look for linen dresses, easy sets, swim cover-ups, great dinner dresses, and separates you can mix throughout the trip. White can still be fun, but there’s no reason your entire suitcase needs to look bridal. Buy for the destination and your actual style first.
How to Build a Bridal Wardrobe You’ll Actually Wear
You don’t need a completely different aesthetic for every event. In fact, the best bridal wardrobes usually feel like an extension of how you already dress.
Start with the events where you know you want a standout look, then fill in the rest. Mix investment pieces with more affordable finds, repeat accessories, and don’t be afraid to rewear something after the wedding. The goal isn’t to look like a different bride at every event. It’s to find pieces that make you feel like yourself.
